trips: tampa
The National Events Outback Bowl Festival was the second major trip that the Waukesha West Band program embarked on. The bands departed Waukesha on December 27th 1996 and began the thirty hour bus ride for their "Musical Tour of Florida." They returned on January 2nd, 1997. Stops on the tour included and evening at MGM Studios, a day at Disney with a performance in the Spectro Magic parade that evening. Then in Tampa, the bands the Symphonic Winds and Percussion competed in the National Events concert competition, The Marching Band competed in the Outback Bowl Parade, as well as a performance in the Outback Bowl Halftime show with 22 bands from around the country. The Bands came home with a 2nd place finish for the concert competition, and 3rd in marching out of 22 bands from across the nation.
