1997: Evita
While still trying to establish recognition and credibility in Wisconsin marching, the Cadets came into the 1997 season with their most solid show to date. The show "Evita" will be long remembered by everyone who had been involved with it. The Cadets began to push their limits and perform a much more sophisticated show than in previous years. The Cadets enjoyed caption awards at every venue including Best Percussion, Best Musical Presentation, Best Drum Major, and Best Visual Presentation. The season reached its pinnacle at the State Marching Band Championships that year. The emotionally charged performance won the hearts of the crowd. It was West's first State Championship, along with State Titles for Best Music and Best Percussion.

1998: Miss Saigon
The Cadets roared into the 1998 season with their field show "Miss Saigon". The show had a terrific balance of raw power, deep emotion and beauty. Despite winning the first two shows that year, the season went downhill from there. The Cadets had to settle for third place finishes at the Cudahy and Fort Atkinson Marching Band shows. Still determined, the Cadets went into the final week before the State Championship show with the same focus and ambition that won them the 1997 Championship. However, the fate of the 1998 season was in the hands of Mother Nature as it rained all day long. Trying to maintain focus under the unusual circumstances, the Cadets made slight modifications to the show, which was performed indoors as a result of the rain. Standing still in their socks, the Cadets delivered "Miss Saigon" one final time to to a hot, crowded field house. The season ended in disappointment as the Cadets took 2nd place by 0.5 points behind thier cross-town rivals. The Cadets did, however, win best musical presentation. |
