Uniforms: Proper fit and Hemming Instructions
August 14, 2008
Our Cadets uniforms are the visual part of the Pride of the West Side. Special attention needs to be given to the proper way to make alterations when they are needed.
Correct Uniform Fit: Guidelines
Jacket sleeve length should be slightly below the wrist at mid hand.
Marching band uniform pants are worn shorter than regular pants. Pants should just touch the top of the shoes with no bunching at the ankles.
Waukesha West Cadet Uniform Hemming Instructions:
NEVER cut the uniform fabric to shorten sleeves or pants.
Hems should be hand sewn with matching thread (white for pants, royal blue for jacket sleeves.)
To shorten pants: Carefully remove stitches with a seam ripper or small scissors. Lightly press after the hemming is done.
To shorten jacket sleeves: Simply fold up to the correct length and lightly press after hemming is done.
To lengthen pants and jacket sleeves: Carefully remove stitches with a seam ripper or small scissors to lengthen hems and press flat. Then fold fabric to desired hem length. After sewn, press new hem.
